Worlds
Moonlit places with their own rules, built one floating island at a time.
Independent animation studio
Dark Forest Animations makes animated short stories and living worlds: moonlit forests, floating islands, and the circuits that run beneath them.
The studio
We make short animated films and the worlds they live in. Calm, atmospheric, a little strange: the kind of forest you would walk into slowly. Everything begins as a place, and every place gets its own story.
Moonlit places with their own rules, built one floating island at a time.
Sketches, geometry, light, and the failed experiments in between, shared as we go.
Short films and motion studies, made to be watched slowly.
The craft
Every world starts as a pencil line. It becomes geometry, then light, then motion. Nature above, technology below, one root system: the trees are drawn by hand and the roots are wired by hand too.
Our emblem says it plainly. A grove on a floating cube, roots pouring over the edge and turning into circuits. That is the studio: imagination first, tools second, both growing from the same ground.
Every root finds a path.
Every path carries a signal.
Every signal is a story waiting to be told.
Sixty books, fourteen stories. Take one down.
Talos / the first story
The forest introduces the craft. The roots become threads. The threads lead to the Fates of Talos: seven lives in one living world, and not one of them agrees on what it should become.

Side characters / The quiet bonds
In the slums, an old man takes Ren in. His origins are unknown. He says nothing, but food, shelter and small acts of affection tell Ren that he is not alone.
A quiet presence in Ren's earliest memories.
Minions / Under the Codek
The Codek's influence reaches through those who carry out his will. Cy is created in his image and remains purely loyal to him. Algos has broken away, but the old order still follows him.
The making
Stone, roots, five trees, then light. Scroll to build the world inside our mark.
Inside the emblem
Look closer. The canopy holds the light, the roots carry the signal, and a library waits inside the stone. Every part belongs to the same world.

Frames and clips from our Blender scene. Studies in light, texture and movement.
Built in Blender: 130,637 triangles in the desktop model, 64,787 in the phone one. Photographed bark, rock and leaves from Poly Haven; Moon imagery from NASA.
Process
An idea and a feeling. A place we want to stand in, and a question about who lives there. It is written down before anything is drawn.
Thumbnails, frames and a rough board. If it does not work as ten drawings it will not work as a film. The board is cut until it does.
Models, sets and light. The world gets geometry and the geometry gets rules. Real materials, photographed, and code where it helps.
Timing, motion, then sound. Slow where it should be slow. Every shot is watched at speed and at a crawl.
A film on the channel, and the making of it shared alongside. Then the next island.
Talos / our first animation
In Talos, living beings are called Fates. The system can calculate their paths. A boy from the slums can see another way.
Ren sees the futures other people are made to accept. Beside him is Damon, a lost friend rebuilt in a machine body, whose loyalty becomes his own. Between them and the men who would own tomorrow stands a living world.
The city that promises a future
A radiant city of engineered life, licensed movement and uncertain freedom. Its brilliance is real. So is the price paid below.
The lives beneath the light
The slums are dangerous, but never empty of care. Repair stalls, shared meals and improvised homes survive in the shadow of systems that count people as fuel.
Where rejected futures remain
Beyond the safe world lie broken cities and forests that remember shapes they should not possess. The Void is not simply absence. Something lives in what was discarded.

The studio
Dark Forest Animations is an independent animation studio, founded in 2026 and based in the United Kingdom. A growing forest on the screen, and a channel where the work is shown as it is made.
Collaborations and commissions start with a conversation. Write to us with the place, the feeling and who lives there, and we reply ourselves. If we go on to work together, the terms are agreed in writing before anything is made.
Yes, when the story fits. Use the form below or email the studio; we reply to everything.
On the YouTube channel first. Nothing is released yet; the first story is in development.
Not without written permission. The press kit covers reporting on the studio; for anything else, ask.
Photographed materials from Poly Haven (CC0) and NASA's public-domain Moon; the circuits are drawn by our own code. Every source is listed with its licence in the project's asset manifest.
Beyond the forest
Worlds beyond the branches. A quiet passage between stories.

The boy who can see another way
Raised in the slums, Ren sees futures that other people are forced to endure. Kindness is his first instinct. Choosing his own path may be his greatest act of rebellion.
Ren is the son of Dunamis, born with the living planet. Silence conceals the connection to his father; his growth algorithms could be stolen and weaponised.

Consciousness
An alternate portrait of Ren. Familiar locs and an expressive face meet a quieter silhouette: a dark jacket, a simple grey shirt and white trainers.

A brother, beyond the blueprint
Clever, curious and fiercely loyal, Damon is the companion who makes an impossible city feel less lonely. His machine body holds more than anyone understands.
Ren rebuilt his childhood friend after Damon died. The original soul gradually begins to inhabit the robotic form, making his loyalty increasingly chosen rather than artificial. His death remains unresolved.

The architect who chooses to watch
A generous smile. An unreadable intention. Dunamis understands every layer of the system and leaves everyone wondering why he allows it to remain broken.
The originator of the system and Ren's father. He has the means to solve its problems but does not consistently choose to intervene; his version of righteousness can permit death.

The keeper of costly futures
The last survivor of a lost people trades in information, sacrifice and futures. Every answer he offers has a price, and someone else may be made to pay it.
He conspires with Dunamis to force destinies. His preference for protecting the young is real but conditional: even they can be sacrificed for his ideal future.

The hunter outside the rules
Algos rejects the algorithm but still enforces the order that depends on it. His network reaches everywhere; his methods leave little room for mercy.
Created by Codek, he detached from the individual while continuing to obey The Codek syndicate. He repeatedly becomes a lethal threat to Ren.

The future, under one command
Codek would replace a flawed creator with perfect control. Through Ace, thought becomes technology, and the world becomes something he believes he can own.
He seeks to imprison the unkillable Dunamis and train Ren into the weapon that can seize the system. His correct accusation of Dunamis does not redeem his methods.

The order that will not hesitate
An enforcer built in Codek's image, Cy commands living machines and offers kindness only when it serves the order. Even his creator cannot always restrain his devotion.
Cy wants Ren killed, not recruited. His loyalty to The Codek can bring him into direct conflict with Codek the individual.
